For the watershed we share.

The diitiida (di:ti:dah)/Jordan River Watershed is the traditional, unceded territory of the Pacheedaht Nation.

Jordan River Watershed Awareness (JRWA) is a not-for-profit society based in Jordan River, BC, working to build shared understanding of the factors shaping the health of the diitiida (di:ti:dah)/Jordan River Watershed. Once a river that supported abundant life, the Jordan River has been significantly altered by more than a century of industrial development, resource extraction and changing land use.

As climate pressures intensify and ecological losses become normalized, JRWA convenes diverse interests and rights holders to raise awareness and share knowledge. Through collaboration and advocacy, we work toward a future of restoration.

Our Vision

A living, resilient watershed

We envision a future where the diitiida/Jordan River Watershed supports thriving ecosystems, healthy water and a strong sense of connection between people and place. A watershed where rivers, forests and nearshore environments function together, creating conditions for life to flourish.

A place shaped with care

In this future, decisions that affect the watershed are made with long-term health in mind. Water flows are better supported, habitats are strengthened and the cumulative impacts of land use are considered across the whole system, not in isolation.

A healthy future, together

Caring for a watershed is a shared responsibility. We imagine a future where people who live, work and spend time in this place feel connected to its health and empowered to be part of sustaining it for generations to come.

We acknowledge the diitiida (di:ti:dah)/Jordan River Watershed is the traditional, unceded territory of the Pacheedaht Nation.

Originally known as Diitiida, the Jordan River and its valley were part of a broader landscape of village sites and seasonal harvesting areas used by the Pacheedaht First Nation and neighbouring First Nations. Oral histories describe this area as an important gathering place, with Indigenous Peoples travelling to the watershed from as far as the Olympic Peninsula to fish, harvest food and spend time trading and socializing. These long-standing connections reflect the cultural, ecological and social importance of the watershed within the broader coastal network. Today the Pacheedaht First Nation, along with the Ditidaht First Nation, continues to exercise this connection as they advance treaty processes that encompass the Jordan River watershed and surrounding lands
